Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution
The Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution at the University of Missouri School of Law is dedicated to unraveling the complexities of conflict, exploring its origins, and identifying effective resolution strategies. It advocates for a comprehensive approach to legal practice and decision-making, leveraging a spectrum of dispute resolution mechanisms including negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
The National Academy of Arbitrators
The National Academy of Arbitrators was founded in 1947 as a not-for-profit honorary and professional organization of arbitrators in the United States and Canada. Members are chosen by involved parties to hear and decide thousands of labor and employment arbitration cases each year in private industry, the public sector, and non-profits in both countries. As a friend of the court, the Academy has participated in appellate litigation on key issues affecting the institution of arbitration in the United States and Canada. It also collaborates with sister organizations such as government agencies, professional organizations, institutions and learned societies in the field of labor-management and employment relations. Admission standards are rigorous in keeping with the goal of establishing and fostering the highest standards of integrity and competence.

The genesis of this website arose from the observation of a gap in legal education concerning problem-solving methodologies. Recognizing the need to delve deeper into the theory and practice of dispute resolution beyond litigation, the faculty at the University of Missouri School of Law, with the support of the former dean, Dale Whitman, established the Center for the Study of Dispute Resolution. This initiative aims to shape and advance the field of legal studies by fostering research and education in alternative dispute resolution methods.
